Job Description

A Shelter Support Worker provides frontline assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity by ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive living environment. The role involves monitoring shelter spaces, supporting daily routines, responding to crises, documenting incidents, and connecting clients with social, health, and community resources. Shelter Support Workers must demonstrate strong communication skills, empathy, cultural awareness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while upholding organizational policies and promoting client dignity, safety, and well-being.

General Requirements

  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada
  • Valid government-issued photo ID
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Flexible availability (days, evenings, nights, weekends)

Skill & Experience

  • Experience in shelters, social services, or community work preferred
  • CPR/First Aid (required or willingness to obtain)
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and harm-reduction practices an asset
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
